Why I’m running for Council

As your councilor I will be your voice at City Hall, and advocate for your interests by always putting the community first. I am a woman with vision, and the attitude that status quo can always be questioned and/or challenged.  I ask Why not? rather than simply why?

My aim is to promote a community supported vision by working with you to develop community objectives, timelines, and priorities, while supporting programs that work, and examining those that don't. I will work with council to create long-term solutions that bring positive and lasting change to Beacon Hill-Cyrville.

I believe in the need to create new policies and infrastructure to support our urban growth. Council needs to help our vibrant community become an established and mature ward that supports urban living by planning for urban growth and developing sustainable strategies for economic development.

As a citizen of Canada, I am proud to live in Ottawa, and I want our community’s residents to be equally proud of Beacon Hill-Cyrville by making it a self-sustaining community in which we can all work and play. By developing a platform that focuses on infrastructure, tourism, and economic development we can create a more sustainable community; one that promotes urban living with more job opportunities.

By focusing my campaign on evidence based politics I feel that so much more can be accomplished. Right now Ottawa has a growing issue of wealth disparity, and the gap is widening. Issues like Housing, Employment, Transport and Food are all necessities that we must plan in tandem, with a multi faceted approach. Simply focusing on one strategy to ignore another just furthers the divide.

On October 27 select the candidate that not only believes in your community’s vision, but who will work with you to create the vision

Ways we can work together:

Economic Development

  • Less reliance on the Private Public strategy (P3's)  which only serves to burden future generations with huge costs.

  • Encourage the support of local business

  • Employ a more strategic investment strategy

  • Focus on industry development and expansion by bringing in new businesses to create new and diversified employment opportunities that are long term sustainable—from farming, small businesses to international corporations.

  • Develop long term plans to sustain our farmers and farming community and create new jobs in this sector.

Smarter Land Development Strategies

  • Create more public and recreational spaces

  • Increase affordable housing for seniors, low income families, and individuals with accessibility needs by implementing a by-law requiring multi-dwelling units to allocate a percentage of their units to affordable housing. Implementing an integrated approach to affordable housing, not a segregated approach, encouraging inclusiveness in our community.

  • Build new developments with environmentally sound practices, and require energy savings to be integrated into their design such as; passive solar power, example and example.

  • Encourage older developments to retrofit to be more energy efficient and improve their bottom line.
